From Skagway by road 28 June 2011

The trip by road from Skagway to Whitehorse via Bennetts follows one of the general routes taken in the gold rush days over White Pass.  In many places the railway that we had travelled in the morning was visible seen here across the valley.

The train here seen travelling near the summit in the rocks.

Vegetation grows little more than one metre at this altitude.  White Pass is 2888 feet (about 880 metres).

A closer view of the small shrubbery not unlike New Zealand hebe.

Not everyone travelled by car or train past the series of lakes not far below the summit.  There is almost continuous waterway to the Yukon River and all the way to the Klondyke.

The railway has been rebuilt to Bennetts, here the last bridge leading into the small village of Carcross where considerable work is being done to retore the line to this old transhipment location.

We leave this quirky little township for Whitehorse.
